- On 27 July 2016 the National Memorial Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was held at Peikarumbhu, Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.
- The Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar and Union Minister for Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting Shri M Venkaiah Naidu jointly laid the foundation stone and paid rich tributes to the late President on his death anniversary.
- The Ministers also inaugurated the statue of Dr. Kalam.
- It may be recalled that the former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam was passed away after he collapsed following a massive heart attack, at the IIM Shillong campus on 27 July 2015.
